Short Lifespan Illustrated

This post will be brief because I’ve addressed this subject before.

The criticism of this year’s SI Swimsuit Issue – at least the criticism coming from those in the health, fitness, or medical fields – is not a personal attack on Yumi Nu. It’s not about body-shaming. It’s not about “fat-phobia.” It’s not about aesthetics.

It’s about promoting ill health, which is what obesity sets you up for in a variety of ways, one of which is being more susceptible to viruses. That’s not speculation, or theory, or bigotry.

That’s science.

It’s funny (when it’s not sad) how a lot of the “follow the science” crowd of the last couple years are perfectly happy to abandon science when there are doughnuts.

Last but not least, the annual SI Swimsuit Issue has – for decades – been criticized for “objectifying” women. But now that the women being objectified are fat, it’s “empowering.”
